James Lovera Footed Flaring Bowl
Circa 1975, this James Lovera (1920-2015) footed, flaring bowl stands 3.25" in height and is 8.75" in diameter. This deeply textured volcanic glazed bowl is finished in rich shades of dark to light brown with highlights of gold, almost orange. The form of this vase offers a range of different surfaces that are concave, convex and allow the glaze effect to shine thru. In original condition, there are no cracks, chips, hairlines, or repairs. Incised on the base "Lovera", Mr. Lovera was born in California and devoted his life to the creating and teaching of ceramics. Mr. Lovera's work is included in several museum collections including the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Crocker Museum, the NY Museum of Modern Art and others. This is a wonderful piece of mid-century modern art to add to your pottery collection.
